Giving to the Church in Goma

A few people have asked how to directly support Martin’s ministry as Bishop of Goma. A few others have asked how to give directly to the ministry of the church in Goma. Both are needed. Details of how to do this are below. As an individual or as a church. As a one-off or on an ongoing basis.

Thank you!

But first, a huge thank you to all who have given since 2020. We have been able to do so much! Each Christmas we provide an increasing number of clergy and staff with a gift to buy something to celebrate with on Christmas day. We have provided theology books for students, bought motorbikes for archdeacons, purchased land for church-planting and put roofs on churches. We have provided training for Sunday school leaders and organised conferences for young people. Thank you!

Supporting Martin as Bishop of Goma

Martin is supported through Church Mission Society (CMS) to be able to serve as Bishop of Goma. CMS relies on the support of individuals and churches to be able to support their mission partners. Since becoming bishop there are significantly increased costs.

To support Martin directly please go to the dedicated page on the CMS website.

Giving directly to the church in Goma

The easiest and most tax-efficient way to give directly to the work on the church in Goma is to visit the giving page for the Diocese of GomaAll giving is channelled through the Congo Church Association and goes directly to the diocese.

A brief summary of where your support can make the most impact is below. For more details go to the overview of the diocese of Goma. Or see the downloadable PDF for church use. You can specify if you would like to give to one of the below areas, generally to the work of the diocese or to something else.

Training – For various reasons such as poor education or hurried ordinations or simply lack of resources - we have an urgent need of training and retraining – in preaching, parish management, conflict-resolution, Sunday school ministry, marriage, and community development.

Evangelism – our vision is to plant 35 churches in the next 5 years . At the end of year 1 we have already planted 6. Funding can help fund evangelism training and campaigns and to put roofs on churches.

Parish development – our aim is for every one of our existing parishes to have its own land (with legal documents) with a church and a pastor’s house. Normally the local believers build the majority of the church and the diocese helps with the roof.

Books and Bibles – we long to massively increasing the number of believers in our churches who have their own Bibles and prayer books, as well as continuing to provide all theology students with a bundle of essential books when they graduate.
